Kelvin Fletcher 'felt like a failure' before highest-scored Strictly week three dance ever

Strictly Come Dancing 2019 star Kelvin Fletcher confessed he felt "like a failure" as he worried about his routine last week, before going on to get the first 10s of the current series.

Last weekend, Kelvin and professional dance partner Oti Mabuse got the highest score of the series so far, while they also got one of the highest week three scores ever on the show.

They got two 10s from the judges, scoring them a whopping 38 points in just week three.

But it wasn't all smooth sailing, with Kelvin now confessing he didn't think he would pull off a great performance before his great score thanks to trouble in rehearsals.

Kelvin explained: "If you'd have seen me on the Monday. Monday for me was the worst day.

"Every week learning a new dance, I really really struggled on Monday. It sounds odd but I just felt like a failure because I couldn't get the simplest of steps right."

He added: "It was like, what am I gonna do? Tuesday I improved a little bit, and Wednesday I improved.

"Thursday felt like I went backwards, I panicked on Friday and suddenly on Saturday we got two 10s!"

Host Rylan Clark-Neal joked his weekly update sounded like a new Craig David song, similar to 7 Days.

He then added that the couple's score was the highest week three score ever on the series - not including series 12 when there were five judges on the panel for that week.

Kelvin and Oti are not feeling the pressure (BBC)

This week, Oti and Kelvin will perform the Rumba and are hoping to echo their success of the weekend before.

Of any pressure it's given them to do well, Kelvin said: "Erm, genuinely none I don't think because it's a new dance. I've very much forgotten about that now.

"[The Rumba is] a very different dance with a completely different pace. It's so slow!"

Strictly Come Dancing continues live on Saturday at 6:40pm on BBC One.
