Kelty Hearts and Brora Rangers get SFA green light to resume training ahead of play-off crunch

Kelty Hearts and Brora Rangers have been given the green light to return to training two weeks ahead of the biggest game in their history.

Record Sport told earlier this week how Barry Ferguson ’s Kelty side were in limbo due to covid restrictions with the first leg of their Pyramid Play-Off scheduled for Saturday, April 24.

The Fifers - declared Lowland League champions last week - haven’t trained at all since football below the Championship was brought to a halt by rising virus cases in early January.

But after committing to weekly testing of their players in line with the protocols which have seen League 1 and 2 return to action, Kelty and Brora have both been granted professional sports exemption by the Scottish Government and SFA to begin preparing for the play-off in earnest.

The winner of the two-legged tie will go forward to face the side finishing bottom of League 2 for a place in the SPFL - if league chiefs give that second play-off the go-ahead.

A Kelty statement said: “We have had confirmation from the SFA that we now have permission to train and prepare for the upcoming play off matches.

“We would like to thank the SFA, Government and the Scottish Lowland Football League for this.”
