Kelso horse racing tips and best bets for a big day of action in the Borders

Scottish racing fans are descending on Kelso today for a cracking Saturday of action.

While attention south of the border centres on Cheltenham and Doncaster, there’s eight races to get stuck into in the Borders and Record Sport tipster Garry Owen takes you through his fancies on the card.

FORTESCUE (3.19) is the name to remember in the Edinburgh Gin Handicap Chase which is worth £40,000 in prize money.

Henry Daly’s gelding returned to form when hosing up from Debece in a strong event at Sandown in March.

The seven-year-old ran another blinder when defeating The Wolf in better company at Perth come April.

SPARK OF MADNESS (3.54) should pay for a few rounds by landing the Simpsons Malt Handicap Hurdle.

Lucinda Russell’s gelding was an eye-catching second to Beeno on his comeback at Perth last month. That was a definite career best so this pacy type ought to go one better in another competitive contest.

AWAY AT DAWN (4.29) can maintain Donald McCain’s flying start in the Landale Handicap Chase. The six-year-old took his form to a whole new level when hammering Burrows Diamond at Hexham.

The gelding is open to plenty of progress so can comfortably defy a 7lb hike in hotter company.
