Kelsey Grammer says he forgives sister's rapist and killer but he does not deserve freedom

Kelsey Grammer has spoken about his grief following his sister’s murder in 1975.

Speaking on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs, the Frasier actor said he has forgiven the man who sexually assaulted and killed his sister.

“I have learnt to forgive. I have even told the guy I forgive him, although I don’t advocate his freedom. I don’t think that is reasonable,” he said.

Karen Grammer was abducted, raped and murdered at the age of 18 by Freddie Glenn and accomplice Michael Corbett on 1 July 1975.

The two men snatched Miss Grammer while she was outside a restaurant waiting for her boyfriend to finish work, as the pair had tried to rob the restaurant and believed she could identify them.

The men sexually assaulted Miss Grammer before Glenn, who was high on LSD, slit her throat and left her to die.

Kelsey Grammer later identified the body of his sister.

Glenn was convicted of killing Miss Grammer and given the death penalty, but the Supreme Court overturned the decision and allowed him to seek parole after 30 years.

He was also convicted of killing motel cook Daniel Van Lone, 28, and soldier Winfred Proffitt, 19.

Mr Grammer has since helped block two attempts by Glenn, who is currently incarcerated at Colorado’s Buena Vista Correctional Facility, to get parole.

“In a letter to the parole board, I said the punishment shouldn’t be worse for the family than it is for the guy that killed the person and that’s what this feels like sometimes,” he said.
