Kelly Rowland's marble fireplace is the epitome of luxury – there's a reason this material has been used for centuries

It's indisputable: marble is timeless and elegant, making it an enduring choice in modern and traditional homes alike. A particular favorite use of marble that we love is as a fireplace's facade, which brings a cooling energy to this warming space of the home.

Kelly Rowland is on board with the design choice, as evidenced by an Instagram post that shows off the singer's white marbled hearth, and it's giving us some excellent fireplace ideas.

The stone shines with its intricate veining and light hue, complementing her neutral walls and white boucle sofa beautifully. It's proof that the material is truly one of the most versatile you can get.

According to design experts, marble's history within design is rich, having been a staple in homes and buildings for centuries.

'The historic beauty of marble has drawn people to it for hundreds of years,' explains Paul Dore, kitchen expert and director at County Stone Ltd. 'Therefore it’s little wonder that marble has been one of the most popular choices for people looking to elevate their homes with a material that will stand the test of time.'

He continues, 'Marble is a natural stone - unlike the popular quartz. Marble starts out life as limestone rock, which is made of hardened fossils. Heat and pressure change it into marble. Its natural colours, patterns and designs come from small amounts of other minerals like iron oxides and mica. This means that no two pieces of marble are exactly the same, and this is partly why marble has always been one of the most popular stones for a whole host of uses.'

When it comes to using marble as a fireplace material, Paul encourages both modern and traditional homeowners to experiment.

'Period homes in particular can play host to stunning marble fireplaces that are the true centrepiece to any room,' he explains. 'More than just a frame for your fire, they are a stunning focal point that leaves a lasting impression. But it’s not just period homes that can benefit from a marble fireplace. Modern designs have been used to create real focal points in mid-century and modern homes all over the world.'

For those who aren't quite ready to renovate the fireplace, accessories are a simple, accessible way to introduce marble to your living space. Opt for a small candlestick holder on your mantel or a tray on your coffee table for some impactful decor.
