Kelly Clarkson explains 'beef' with Carrie Underwood after ongoing feud rumours

Rumours about a strained relationship between Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood have officially been squashed and it turns out that there is no feud at all - at least according to Clarkson.

During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, a fan question gave Clarkson the opportunity to clear up all of the rumors from over the years.

She said: "Everybody always pits us against each other and I don't know why they do that. They don't do that with dudes. They only do it with females."

Clarkson says that there is "no beef" and the reason for that is actually rather quite obvious.

"There's nothing between us because we don't know each other, so like, we literally run into each other a few times," she said.

One of those times was actually on Clarkson's talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show.

And the talk show host said that she would actually "love to have her again," saying that having Underwood on the show was "awesome."

But where did the Clarkson and Underwood rumours start, anyway?

Since both Clarkson and Underwood are both country American Idol stars, they naturally associated together and, eventually, seemed to turn against each other.

In April 2016, Radar Online reported that an anonymous source claimed Underwood had some jealousy about Clarkson's performance on Idol. While Clarkson was given a solo slot, Underwood had a duet with Keith Urban.

"Carrie said she just felt like she should have gotten the same type of treatment that Kelly did since she is the big money-maker from the show," the anonymous source told Radar Online. Apparently, Underwood even "threw a fit" and "flipped out" backstage.

The jealousy apparently continued the next year after Clarkson landed a gig as a judge on The Voice.

“Carrie was jealous Kelly got a coaching gig on The Voice that she thought should’ve been hers. And Kelly’s always been jealous that Carrie’s the bestselling idol to come out of Idol," a source told Radar Online.

The rumours continued to give Underwood that mean girl image because, apparently, Underwood flatly turned down an invite from Clarkson to appear on The Kelly Clarkson Show.

Of course, Underwood eventually did make in appearance in 2021, but the damage was done and the rumors were flying.

It doesn't quite look great for either party when celebrities are beefing. Regardless of the legitimacy of the rumors, Clarkson and Underwood have both tried to bury them before.

After being pitted against each other in a poll from The Tylt, Clarkson was quick to respond.

She tweeted, "I think we’re both winning in life."

Underwood agreed with her, even tweeting that she voted for Clarkson. It looks like both of the singers are attempting to stay out of the drama.
