Kelly Bensimon is “lucky to be alive” after being involved in a head-on car crash in Sarasota, Florida, on Monday (14.07.26).
The reality star was in an Uber with celebrity chef Andrew Molen when their car was rammed by an oncoming vehicle while turning left onto the busy Tamiami Trail.
The terrifying crash caused the Uber’s airbags to inflate, and knocked Bensimon unconscious.
She, Molen and the driver of the other car were taken to the hospital, where doctors X-rayed Kelly’s right arm - which she feared was broken - and gave her a CAT scan.
The Real Housewives of New York City star told the New York Post’s Page Six of the crash: “I’m lucky to have walked away alive.
“My right arm is a mess. My head went straight into the back of the seat. It was really bad. I was unconscious for a couple seconds. I was freaking out. I thought I broke my arm.”
Now at home recovering, Kelly added she’s “totally out of it” and “in so much pain”.
She continued: “My head went back and banged [Molen] on his chin. There were make-up marks on the airbag.”
Kelly went on to recall details of the crash, as she said that chef Andrew saw the other car coming and yelled to the Uber driver to “brake, brake”.
He told the outlet: “[The other car] came straight on. You didn’t hear brakes screech. He came straight in at full blast. We got hit so hard. Kelly went flying.
“I hit the ceiling. Airbags went off. There was dust everywhere.”
“Kelly was out cold. She kept falling back. The car spun.”
Following the terrifying crash, Molen has cancelled five events he was meant to be cooking for this week, and is planning to go back to the doctors about his neck.
He said: “I am in a lot of pain. They had to help us into ambulances.”
Kelly was in Florida for an open house for her $22 million listing at 3315 Bay Shore Road, while Andrew was doing food and kitchen demonstrations for the event.
The pair were also being filmed for their digital lifestyle series The Chef and the Housewife, with the programme “bringing ultra-high-net-worth living to life through food, entertaining, design, and the experiences that define exceptional homes”, a press release said.
