Kells Primary pupils in New Galloway show they're real Smarties with fundraising idea

Youngsters at Kells Primary have shown they’re real Smarties by raising money for charity.

The pupils were busy filling empty Smarties tubes with 20p pieces ahead of them shutting for the academic year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

They were inspired by one of their colleagues Hector, who did the same for the Hands Up Foundation after hearing about it from his granny.

The charity helps fund health and education programmes in Syria and surrounding countries.

Hector himself filled five boxes, each of which is estimated to hold around £12.

As a result, one box is enough to pay for two children to be immunised against measles or two educational packs.
