Kells Primary pupils in New Galloway enjoy first day at school in 2021

P1-3 pupils at Kells School in New Galloway were among thousands across Scotland returning to school this week.

And all the children were delighted to see friends and school staff again after five weeks of enforced learning at home.

Jude Crooks, mother to P3 pupil Millie, said: “Kells School has small class sizes, plenty of room and fantastic outside space so I feel very confident sending her.

“Millie’s P1-P3 class has just 10 children in it, so they are also benefiting from a lot of teacher attention which will really help them after this second lockdown.”

Mrs Welsh, one of two shared P1-P3 class teachers, added: “We are so excited to welcome the children back.

“We’ve missed them all and although we’ve been in contact as much as we can through the lockdown, it’s not the same.

“The space and environment we have as a rural school makes for a positive, relaxed and safe return for the P1-3s.

“Hopefully, very soon, we will welcome back the rest of our staff and pupils.”

P1 pupil Elliot was excited on his first day back on Monday.

“I had so much fun and loved seeing my friends,” he said.
