Kellogg's launches onion-flavoured breakfast cereal - but do you dare try it

It’s enough to make you weep.

Kellogg’s has launched an onion-flavour breakfast cereal, 16 years after the bizarre idea won a controversial poll.

Boxes of Chaka flakes sold out in two days as cereal fans hailed a “win for democracy”, following a long campaign for Kellogg’s to honour a 2004 pledge.

The firm had asked shoppers in Korea to vote for a new flavour – chocolate Cheki cereal or green onion Chaka.

Koreans went against the grain and plumped for onion.

But amid claims of vote-rigging, Kellogg’s deleted thousands of votes and Cheki won.

An outcry ensued but Kellogg’s has bowed to public pressure and apologised for the delay in its TV campaign.

A spokeswoman said: “We never expected consumers would be interested. But every time we had promotional events, online communities asked for it.”

Chaka boxes show a vic-torious giant green snack bursting out of a bowl as rival Cheki quivers behind.

A fan said: “The cheating forces of Cheki were ousted and Mr Chaka’s 16-year struggle has come to an end.”
