Kello Rovers boss Scott Clelland hopes new signings will follow after Auchinleck Talbot show

Scott Clelland reckons he might have a chance of bringing fresh faces to Kello Rovers – after their super show against West of Scotland League giants Auchinleck Talbot.

The Nithside Park boss is keen to add to his squad ahead of the new season which is scheduled to kick-off next month.

And the gaffer thinks he might be able to persuade a few players that their futures lie in Kirkconnel after Saturday's 1-1 pre-season friendly draw with Talbot.

Mark Armour's penalty on the stroke of half-time cancelled out Ally Smith's own goal opener for Auchinleck as Kello denied the big guns victory in their first outing for 15 months.

Clelland told Ayrshire Live: "We've been training for two weeks and had about six sessions but the boys were brilliant from start to finish. We didn't deserve to get beat and deserved our draw at least.

"We knew Talbot would keeping come at us but we knew it was going to be about how we defended. We had to defend in twos and threes. You've got to dig deep.

"But I need to bring in players. I have a squad of 16 just now. I've been speaking to a few boys but every time I speak to people they don't want to travel to Kirkconnel.

"Maybe a few of them will see this result and think it's not as bad down here as everyone makes out.

"The majority of players are from Kirkconnel and Sanquhar. One's from Auchinleck and another's from Cumnock so it is what it is."

Kello's pre-season preparations continue this Saturday when they make the short trip to New Cumnock to face Mick McCann's Glenafton Athletic at Loch Park.
