Kellie Harrington says she is 'balling my eyes out' after Nicole Turner wins silver

Kellie Harrington has admitted to 'balling my eyes out' after Nicole Turner raced to silver in Tokyo on Monday.

Turner was one of the favourites going into the race and held her nerve to secure a second place finish.

And Olympic hero Kellie Harrington said that she was 'balling' watching the race.

Taking to Twitter, Harrington said: "I am balling my eyes out, Nicole Turner what an incredible swim, but what an incredible person, I'm lucky to know Nicole and genuinely she is one of the hardest working people I know and to top it she is just such a beautiful human her smile can light up any room"

Turner was one of Ireland's great medal hopes and was ecstatic with her win.

She said: "It hasn't sunk in at all. Coming into Tokyo on the back of Rio being so close to a bronze medal, the aim after Tokyo was to just get on the podium.

"I never in a million years thought it would be silver, i thought it was always be fighting for bronze.

"I was shaking before the race even started to be honest but the past five years have been pretty challenging.

"Even coming into this thing I aimed high but to be honest to reach the podium now with the competitiveness in there it's not sunk in"
