Kellie Harrington's viral two-word post-fight phrase 'sums up her Olympics attitude'

Kellie Harrington will bring a medal back to Ireland after her heroic quarter-final fight in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The north inner-city fighter will face Sudaporn Seesondee in the semi-final on Thursday morning at 6am after beating Imane Khelif and is Ireland's fourth medal winner of the Tokyo Olympics and the second in the boxing ring.

She was even snapped smiling in the ring mid-fight and was evidently cool and calm after securing a bronze medal at least - and her post-fight interview showed her true signs as an Olympic champion.

Echoing a famous quote from The Lion King she told reporters: "Like I said, Hakuna Matata, it means no worries."

Councillor Nial Ring told Dublin Live: "There is great excitement in the North Inner City as Kellie secured an Olympic Bronze medal. We are so proud of her achievement for herself, her community and her country."

"Hakuna Matata... "no worries" - this sums up Kellie's performance, attitude and philosophy."

Having seen off the challenge of Italian opponent Rebecca Nicoli on Friday, the Dubliner lived up to her top seed status in the lightweight division as she claimed a victory by unanimous decision against 22-year-old Khelif to win Ireland's 18th medal in Olympic boxing.

With Khelif's longer reach, Harrington had to be careful and pick her moments to come forward.

After a hesitant start she did so successfully in the first round, winning 4-1 with the judges, with only the Russian judge awarding it to Khelif.

Harrington took control in the second round, finding her range and scoring with combinations, this time taking it 5-0 which left her ahead with four judges and level with Khelif with one.

Her opponent had to go on the attack in the third and final round but Harrington was alive to the danger and sailed through to the semis.
