Kellie Harrington appeared stunned as she saw the scenes in Portland Row as her friends and family celebrated her gold medal win.
The Irish boxer thrilled the nation in the early hours of Sunday morning with a pulsating win against Beatriz Ferreira.
And there were jubilant scenes in inner city Dublin as friends and family of Harrington went wild with joy as Portland Row's own scooped gold.
And Harrington herself was at a loss for words when RTE's Jacqui Hurley showed her the scenes back in Dublin.
Harrington can be heard saying: "Oh my god! Me ma is just like 'wooo'. Oh my god., oh my god."
Messages have poured in to congratulate Harrington for her stunning success.
Taoiseach Micheal Martin said: "Congratulations #kellieharrington on winning gold for Ireland in an epic Olympic final. Brilliant fight. Your family community and country overjoyed for you."
And President Michael D Higgins said: “My warmest congratulations to Kellie Harrington on winning her gold medal at the Olympic Games. Hers is an exceptional achievement, and she is an inspiration for us all.”
