Kellie Harrington odds-on to win professional world title after Olympics glory

Kellie Harrington is already backed to translate her Olympics gold into professional success after her Tokyo triumph.

The Dubliner sealed an emotional win at the Tokyo games on Sunday morning as she overcame Brazil's Beatriz Ferreira in the decider.

There were joyous scenes in the ring when Harrington's name was called as the 31-year-old was in tears celebrating the incredible success.

And as the Portland Row native prepares to return home to Ireland on Tuesday, she could well be thinking of her next steps in the coming weeks.

Having reached the pinnacle of amateur boxing, it's speculated that Harrington could turn professional and follow in the footsteps of Katie Taylor and join the lightweight ranks.

And despite not yet having made the decision to turn professional, bookmaker Ladbrokes have already installed Harrington as an odds-on 4/6 shot to win a professional world championship belt should she make the leap.

Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said: “We are convinced Kellie Harrington will decide to turn pro and if she does, we think she is destined for the top.”

However, Harrington is unlikely to make that decision any time soon as she's expected to land in Dublin airport tomorrow evening and reunite with her family and friends to celebrate her triumph.
