And the popular fighter admitted she was overcome with emotions after the bout.
"I know I give off the impression that I'm a hard faced B, but I'm very emotional deep down inside. Times like this make me cry
"I just feel emotion. I feel very relieved and happy, happy for coaches, happy for friends and family in Ireland, happy that I can give people back home something to celebrate."
Harrington said that that although she didn't fight her best fight she did what needed to be done to win.
"I knew she was going to be long and awkward. To be honest with you, it wasn’t a spectacular fight. It wasn’t anything to write home about.
"I'm just happy to get the job done, so I will just recover now and get ready for my next opponent.
"And again, like I said, what will be will be. This is just a fantastic journey, it's not my destination.
"Obviously very emotional, and that's a reflection on the long journey we had to get here."
