Kellie Harrington enjoys Irish break with wife Mandy Loughlin

Olympic boxing hero Kellie Harrington enjoyed a break with her wife Mandy Loughlin this week as the couple headed to Cork for a few days away.

The Olympic gold medallist and Mandy drove south to the Rebel County for a pre-Christmas break.

Among those that the couple met up with was fellow boxer Christina Desmond, who is a member of An Garda Síochána.

Desmond picked up a silver medal at the European Women's Boxing Championships in Montenegro last month as Irish fighters enjoyed an incredible tournament.

Harrington added to her Olympic gold in the lightweight division as Amy Broadhurst and Aoife O'Rourke also won gold at light-welterweight and middleweight.

Caitlin Fryers joined Desmond in winning silver at light-flyweight, while featherweight Michaela Walsh of Belfast and Mayo's Shannon Sweeney, who fights in the minimum weight 48kg class, both won bronze.

A photo shared on Instagram showed Harrington and Mandy posing for a photo with Desmond in front of a Christmas tree in a restaurant.

Commenting on the snap, Desmond wrote: "Great night with these two."

Harrington also visited the Marina Market in Cork city where she picked up some pieces of jewellery.

Dublin boxing hero Kellie married her long-time partner Mandy in an intimate ceremony back in April after 10 years together as a couple.

Opening up on her big day, Kellie previously said: “It was brilliant, it was absolutely amazing.

“We got great weather for it too, it was like four seasons in one day.”

She added: “It feels really weird saying wife.

“We didn’t take each other’s names, I’m Kellie Harrington and I always will be."

Mandy previously revealed she had "sleepless, anxious nights" during the Olympics and didn't watch any of Kellie's fights.

She explained: "I did [see them] five minutes later but not live. I just can't do it.

"I don't know whether it's because I've been a boxer myself... I don't know. I just don't know. I just can't do it.

"Usually I take the dogs out for a walk [during the fights] or I try and just be normal and do normal things just to try put it at the back of my mind for awhile.

"It was actually hard because they were all in the middle of the night this time so it was just sleepless, anxious nights.

"It was really, really, really tough I have to tell you."

But Mandy never doubted that Kellie would win gold in Tokyo.

She added: "I never doubted Kellie for a minute. Never."
