Singer Kelis and her estranged husband Nas have become parents to a baby boy, their first child together. The rapper announced the arrival of his son on Tuesday 21 July via an online video message, in which he said: "My son is born today, so shout-out to my son, Knight." The couple are in the middle of a reportedly acrimonious divorce.
Kelis filed for divorce in April 2009, shortly after announcing her first pregnancy, citing irreconcilable differences. The couple wed in 2005 and talked openly about their love for one another, with Nas penning a song called Getting Married in honour of his wife.
In 2007, the couple almost participated in an MTV reality show documenting their marriage, but scrapped the idea for reasons of privacy before it went on air.
The divorce is reportedly in its final stages, with child support and spousal maintenance being discussed in court.
Nas signed off his video message, saying: "Y'all heard it first. Don't believe nothing you hear in the media. I love y'all. Don't listen to that bullshit. I love y'all, that's why I'm here." Knight is Nas's second child and Kelis's first.
