Kelechi Iheanacho to Celtic transfer 'option' emerges

Celtic have reportedly turned their attentions to Kelechi Iheanacho in a late bid to draft in a new striker before the transfer deadline.

The window closes in Scotland at 11pm, with the Scottish Premiership champions still on the look out for attacking reinforcements - especially after Adam Idah's £6m move to Swansea was confirmed.

A move for Kasper Dolberg fell flat earlier in the day, with the Danish international set to move to Ajax instead.

Meanwhile, Chelsea's David Datro Fofana has opted to join Charlton Athletic on loan instead of a move north of the border.

So, this leaves Iheanacho, who the Scottish Sun claims has emerged as a late target for the Hoops.

The 28-year-old previously worked under Rodgers at Leicester City.

He almost re-united with the Northern Irishman at Celtic in January, when he was close to joining on loan from Sevilla.

The Nigerian international instead ended up at Middlesbrough on loan, where he managed just one goal.

His contract was due to run until 2026 at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.

However, it has tonight been announced by the La Liga outfit that his deal has been terminated.

So, this means he could sign for a new team beyond tonight's transfer deadline.

It's unclear whether Celtic are making any progress on that, as it stands.

Iheanacho started out at Manchester City before a £20m switch to Leicester in 2020.

More to follow.
