Keith Urban has opened up about his relationship with wife Nicole Kidman, and how he knew that she was the “one”.
The country music star discussed his 14-year marriage with the actress during an appearance on Dax Shepard’s podcast Armchair Expert, where he revealed it felt “obvious” upon meeting Kidman.
Responding to Shepard’s inquiry about when Urban knew he needed to “rise to the occasion,” the 52-year-old said: “That's what happened, definitely."
“She's just the one, that was it," he said. "She's the one that I was searching for my whole life, and everything not only changed but had to change in me if I was going to go that road. It felt like an ultimate fork-in-the-road moment in my life. It was literally like: 'You either get this right now, or you are never, ever going to get it right. This is your one shot.' Really, it felt so obvious.”
“I knew where I was going, I was going into the light finally,” Urban continued. “It was everything I was looking for and then some. Beyond, just beyond."
During the interview, Shepard also asked the Be A Light singer whether egos ever come between the couple considering their mutual success.
“There's so many other things that I can bring that help and blossom the family and protect it and take care of it and grow it, not just fiscally,” Urban said, adding: "So I bring everything I can most of the time. You have to be brutally honest."
The couple, who have two daughters: Sunday Rose, 12, and Faith Margaret, nine, married in 2006, after meeting the year prior at a gala.
Kidman also shares son Connor, 26, and daughter Isabella, 27, with ex Tom Cruise.
The actress has previously revealed that she felt equally strong feelings towards Urban shortly after they first met.
“It was pretty intense,” she told People. “I believed by that point he was the love of my life. Maybe that’s because I am deeply romantic, or I’m an actress, or I have strong faith as well, but I just believed: ‘Oh, okay, here he is.'”
