Keith Long dreaming big with Bohs after another win in Tallaght

Bohs boss Keith Long is demanding that his players back up their Tallaght win with more of the same over the coming four days.

There is a real belief within the Bohs squad that they can maintain a challenge but Long acknowledges that they can't slip up after beating nine-man Shamrock Rovers on Tuesday.

The Phibsboro club's derby win on Tuesday puts them five points behind Rovers at the top of the table with a game in hand - although that game will be against fellow chasers Dundalk on May 10.

“I’ve said it before, we’re not going to put limits on what we can achieve this season and we won’t," Long said.

"There was a belief in the group that we could come to Tallaght and cause an upset.

“The players have belief. We won there before, it’s not unnatural to them.

"They have belief in terms of performances, the way they’ve been playing since the start of the season.

"They’re getting better as they gel and as they evolve. We’ve got some good players in the team.

"We came with the intention of bridging the gap between ourselves and Rovers and lucky enough we’ve been able to do that. "

Long added: "It’s a crazy schedule at the moment - Waterford on Friday, Derry on Monday.

"Last year when we came and won in Tallaght, we went to Derry and lost, we can’t allow that to happen this year.

"We’ve got to make sure we utilise our squad wisely, we’ve got a little bit more depth in terms of our squad this season we feel.

"Hopefully we can follow up this win with another on Friday night."

The 1-0 victory was, remarkably, Bohs' sixth win over Rovers in their past seven meetings going back almost two years. The other game finished in a draw.

“I think there's a lot of talk in the media," smiled Long. "It’s a fantastic little run we’re on against them.

“The fans are quite enjoying it at the moment, which is great for them. They’ve come out and backed us in big numbers and have done since the start of the season.

"We’ve a sense of where we’re at as a club at the moment. We’ve an understanding where we’re at, where we want to go, what we want to achieve.

"Tuesday night was a big night for us, really. Rovers were on an eight game winning run - obviously we were aided by the two sending offs but that’s not the narrative, really.

"Our performance, our young players, our team, our togetherness really needs to be talked about as well".
