Leeds TV personality Keith Lemon paid tribute to the NHS superheroes during his appearance on The Steph Show.
The comedy character, portrayed by Leigh Francis, was the first guest on the new Channel 4 magazine show which debuted over Monday lunchtime - presented by Steph McGovern.
The funnyman, who famous for Celebrity Juice, took a moment to be serious and praise NHS staff for their efforts dealing with the coronavirus pandemic.
There are now more than 730,000 infections globally and almost 35,000 deaths worldwide from the deadly virus. Last week, people across the UK took to the streets to clap for a minute paying tribute to medical staff in the UK battling the disease.
Keith said: “They are like superheroes, I just feel ashamed of myself that I just say rude words on the television.”
Around 20,000 former NHS staff have returned to work in the UK to treat people. You can keep up to date with the latest coronavirus updates through our daily live blog - which you can see here.
The interview with Keith Lemon was carried out over Skype and, originally, The Steph Show was due to be recorded in a new studio at Leeds Dock - as part of Channel 4’s move to Leeds. Although, it will now broadcast daily from Steph McGovern’s Yorkshire home.
“This is not what we had planned. We have a fancy pants studio we are building in Leeds - at Leeds Dock,” she said.
“Yes, this is my actual house. This is a really strange time so I wanted to create a power hour of positivity.”
During the programme, Steph gave everyone a tour of her home while she also introduced features such as Family of The Day, finance tips and home schooling advice.
“Life has changed for everyone, families not seeing each other, we’ve all had to get into different ways of communicating,” she said.
“Safety was the first priority so bear with us things could be a bit rough around the edges - that’s how I’ve been described throughout my career anyway.”
Strictly Come Dancing star Anton Du Beke joined Keith Lemon as a guest on the programme. During the hour-long programme Keith drew a photo of Steph which he revealed to viewers at its conclusion.
During his appearance, Keith cracked several jokes, as you’d expect, and he was also stunned by the decor of Steph’s home.
“Is that really your gaff?” he asked.
“It looks like the perfect contemporary Big Breakfast house but less bright - like me.”
The Steph Show airs at noon each week day on Channel 4.
