Keith Hernandez says Juan Soto isn’t a power hitter right before a HR over the upper deck

The announcer’s jinx never fails.

During Tuesday’s game between the Mets and Nationals, SNY Mets color commentator Keith Hernandez was discussing Juan Soto’s swing, specifically noting that the second-year player was not a home run hitter.

According to Hernandez, Soto has “too big” of a swing and shouldn’t be considered a power hitter despite his 22 home runs as a rookie last season.

Well, let’s just say that Hernandez spoke a bit too soon because Soto went on to hit a monster home run that cleared the second deck in that SAME at-bat. The call backfired so much that the official Nationals Twitter account felt compelled to put the Mets broadcaster on blast.

This home run, which was incorrectly measured at 410 feet, landed somewhere on the upper-deck concourse.

Soto is just 20 years old and has shown plus-power throughout his professional career.  Soto’s poetic response only made Hernandez’s call look worse.

The Mets went on to win, 6-5. And the Mets’ Twitter account reminded the Nationals about that.
