Keith Flint, The Prodigy frontman whose vocals helped push the British electronic group to the mainstream, has died. He was 49.
"It is with deepest shock and sadness that we can confirm the death of our brother and best friend Keith Flint. A true pioneer, innovator and legend. He will be forever missed," the band wrote on Twitter Monday.
Bandmate Liam Howlett said his death was a suicide on Instagram.
Essex police told the BBC they were called to an address in Brook Hill, North for a welfare check.
It was there they discovered Flint's body.
"The death is not being treated as suspicious," police said.
Flint, known for his wild hair and distinct dance style, became a household name and the most recognizable face for the group. His vocals were featured on hits such as "Firestarter" and "Breathe," songs that helped bring the band to a global audience. The group sold an estimated 30 million records worldwide in the 1990s.
The Prodigy, first making a name for themselves in the underground U.K. rave scene, became one of the biggest British bands in the '90s. They were expected to start their U.S. tour in May.
