Keith Flint fans campaign to get The Prodigy's Firestarter to number one in wake of his death

Keith Flint fans have launched a campaign to get The Prodigy’s iconic hit Firestarter to number one in the wake of his death.

Flint was found dead at his Essex home on Monday, with his bandmate Liam Howlett revealing he had ‘taken his own life’. He was 49.

Titled, Get Firestarter to number 1, the Facebook campaign is calling on fans to buy the single or listen on streaming platforms in a bid to “make sure the fire continues”.

“We need to raise awareness of mental health issues and suicide. Suicide is the biggest killer of men under 45 and that needs to change!” the petition reads.

“This is the best way to raise Keith’s profile and bring his plight to the forefront of pop culture and mainstream.

“If you don't want to spend any money then place the song on repeat in a streaming platform such as Spotify or Deezer then mute it and leave it on. This will also count towards the charts.”

Tributes pour in for Keith Flint

Firestarter was taken from the group’s third album, The Fat of the Land, and marked their first number one single on its release in 1996.

The band, which also features Maxim (real name Keith Palmer), have cancelled their upcoming shows “with immediate effect”. Festival organiser Emily Eavis also confirmed The Prodigy had been booked to play Glastonbury in June.

Tributes poured in in the wake of his death from musicians including Dave Grohl and Professor Green as well as his ex-girlfriend Gail Porter and his wife Mayumi Kai.

Sex Pistols frontman John Lydon, known as Johnny Rotten, claimed that the Prodigy frontman was “left alone” by the music industry.

“My heart is broken for him,” he told US site TMZ.

“He was a good friend of mine. Don’t get me wrong but nobody loved him and he was left alone and he got destroyed.

“Why? Who do so many people in this industry be left alone (sic)?”
