Keith Flint death: Watch footage from The Prodigy's headline set at Glastonbury in 1997

Keith Flint and The Prodigy left their mark on the history of contemporary music in many ways – including in 1997, when they became the first dance group to headline the Glastonbury festival.

It was announced on Monday that Flint, who was 49 years old, was found dead at his home in Dunmow, Essex. Flint “took his own life” over the weekend, according to a statement shared by his bandmate Liam Howlett on Instagram.

Glastonbury co-organiser Emily Eavis was among those who paid tribute to the singer, musician and dancer, sharing a video clip of The Prodigy performing at the festival and revealing that the band had been booked to play during this year’s edition.

“We are so saddened to hear about the passing of Keith Flint,” she wrote.

“He’s played here so many times with the Prodigy and was booked for 2019.

“What an incredible frontman. Here’s a clip from 97 when they were the first dance band to headline Glastonbury – a huge, unforgettable moment.”

The Prodigy performed on the main stage of Glastonbury in June 1997.

Other acts that year included Radiohead, the Smashing Pumpkins, and Sting.

The band's Glastonbury headline set took place just before the release of their album The Fat of the Land on 30 June, 1997.
