Keith Byrne released from immigration custody pending hearing as family 'thrilled'

Irishman Keith Byrne has been released from custody in the USA, it has been reported.

His family made the announcement this afternoon, following his arrest by immigration officers three weeks ago.

RTE reports that he has been released pending a hearing.

His sister reportedly said the family is "thrilled" and "screaming with joy" at the news that he will get a "fair hearing".

Keith, 37, travelled to the US on a visa waiver programme in 2007 but overstayed his visa.

In 2009, he married an American lady named Keren with whom he had two kids, and also became stepdad to a child from Keren’s previous relationship.

This was all while setting up his own painting business in Oreland, Philadelphia.

Efforts to obtain a Green Card failed due to a minor drugs possession charge when he lived in Ireland.
