Keir Starmer to visit Donald Trump during US president's trip to Scotland

THE Prime Minister Keir Starmer shall meet with Donald Trump when the US president visits Scotland in the coming weeks.

Starmer has accepted an invitation to visit Trump while he is in Scotland later this month, a source familiar with the plans said on Thursday, Reuters has reported.

Details, such as a specific date, are still to be finalised, the source said, who reportedly was not authorised to speak publicly about the meeting.

It comes after it was confirmed on Wednesday that Police Scotland were drawing up plans for the US president's visit to the country for later this month.

Police and security firms reportedly had meetings this week about Trump's arrival in the coming weeks, with conversations still ongoing, according to Sky News

It was also reported that up to 5000 officers could be required to work 12-hour shifts during Trump's visit.

The expected visit would be the first time Trump has been to Scotland since his victory in the US election.

He previously suggested his trip to Scotland would coincide with the grand opening of a second 18-hole course at Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeenshire, named the MacLeod course after his Scottish mother.

According to reports, Trump will visit his three Scottish golf courses by the end of July, including Turnberry.

Security services are also understood to be preparing for Air Force One to land at Prestwick Airport in Ayrshire.

Trump’s last visit to Turnberry, during his first term as president, prompted a protest on a beach overlooking the golf course, featuring now sadly deceased Scottish comedian Janey Godley.

His Turnberry course has seen several protests since Trump took over the White House for the second time earlier this year.

Protesters sprayed red paint on the clubhouse at the 800-acre resort, and damage was also caused to the greens where the words “Gaza is not for sale” were also painted.
