Sir Keir Starmer will not take part in Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesday as he is "still awaiting" a coronavirus test result for a member of his family.
The Labour leader is self-isolating after a family member showed symptoms of coronavirus.
A spokesman for Sir Keir said on Tuesday: "Keir Starmer is still awaiting the test result for a member of his family.
"He is therefore remaining in self-isolation and will not participate in Prime Minister’s Questions tomorrow.
"Angela Rayner, deputy leader and shadow first secretary of state, will be taking his place. We have informed Number 10."
It is understood Boris Johnson will still take the session, despite the convention that the other faction nominates someone else to stand if the Prime Minister or Leader of the Opposition is absent.
Mr Johnson’s de facto deputy Dominic Raab is currently on a visit to the US.
Earlier this week, the Prime Minister's spokesman said that he had spoken to Sir Keir and "gave him his best wishes".
Sir Keir's self-isolation was announced shortly after the Labour leader took part in his monthly LBC show, Call Keir. His office has contacted LBC.
A spokesman for Sir Keir said: “This morning Keir Starmer was advised to self isolate after a member of his household showed possible symptoms of the coronavirus.
"The member of his household has now had a test. In line with NHS guidelines, Keir will self-isolate while awaiting the results of the test and further advice from medical professionals."
It is understood Sir Keir has not shown any symptoms of the virus.
