Keir Starmer self-isolating for third time after contact with coronavirus case

Keir Starmer is self-isolating for the third time since September after contact with a coronavirus case.

The Labour leader pulled out of a visit to a vaccine centre this morning and is likely to have to do Prime Minister's Questions remotely this Wednesday.

He tweeted: "This morning I was notified that I must self isolate after coming into contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.

"I have no symptoms and will be working from home until next Monday."

It is the third time the Labour leader has had to self-isolate after two previous stints in September and December.

He isolated when a member of his family showed possible coronavirus symptoms in September. He then isolated again last month when a member of his private office staff tested positive.

People who are alerted about contact with a positive Covid-19 case, either by the Test and Trace service or Covid-19 app, should isolate at home for 10 days since that contact.

That suggests Sir Keir's contact with a coronavirus case was on Friday last week.

People must also self-isolate if a member of their household shows any of the three main symptoms of coronavirus.

The Labour leader's office have not said who his contact was with, but it is possible he does not know because Test and Trace works anonymously.
