Kiefer Sutherland to headline Gateshead's SummerTyne Americana Festival and here's how to get tickets

Hollywood star Kiefer Sutherland is to appear at the SummerTyne Americana festival in Gateshead in a line-up which will also boast music favourite KD Lang.

Sage Gateshead announced on Friday that the actor will headlines the event in July where fans will be able to get to see the musical side of the star of hit US drama series 24.

The famous name is a coup for the festival which has already announced Canadian pop and country favourite K D Lang as the headline act to open the annual four-day festival on July 19.

Sutherland will close it on July 21

It will prove an opportunity for fans to hear more of the singer-songwriter talent of the hero of 24, whose character Jack Bauer proved a defining moment in a career which spans a range of hugely successful films such as The Lost Boys; A Few Good Men; Stand by Me and Flatliners with other TV roles including Designated Survivor.

He has become increasingly involved in country music, mixing elements of Americana, folk, rock and blues, and has  a new album Reckless & Me - which follows his debut album in 2016 - coming out at the end of the month.

Tamsin Austin, director of performance programme at Sage Gateshead, said: “We’re really proud that SummerTyne is such a long established festival in the country-Americana music calendar and this is why we continue to attract serious heavyweights."

Other names on the programme for this year's festival - the 14th - include The Long Ryders and  Zealand singer-songwriter Marlon Williams, recently seen alongside Bradley Cooper in Oscar-winning film A Star is Born, plus a new generation of rising talents such as Roosevelt Collier and the Wandering Hearts.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Friday, April 12. See here  or call 0191 443 4661.
