Keeper Jak Alnwick insists St Mirren can stop 'unbelievable' Rangers in League Cup clash

Saints keeper Jak Alnwick admits he’d love to be the one to stop his “unbelievable” former employer’s tonight.

The goalkeeper has been in fine form this season since joining from Rangers over the summer, becoming a firm fans’ favourite in Vaclav Hladky’s absence.

And now the 27-year-old is hoping to pull off the saves that knock his old club out of the League Cup at the quarter-final stage and further cement his place in St Mirren supporters’ hearts.

He told Express Sport: “Let’s be honest, they’re looking unbelievable at the minute.

“But someone has got to beat them, so why not us? It’s pointless going into a game thinking ‘oh my god, Rangers are unbelievable’.

“Yes they are at the minute but you look at Barcelona teams and Liverpool teams who have gone on runs over the years, they do eventually get beaten.

“Obviously it’s going to be tough, no matter what sort of side they put out on the night.

“But we’ve got to focus on ourselves. We caused an upset against Aberdeen and no-one really gave us a chance against them.

“We can go and do the same again.”
