'Keep the pressure on' - How Newcastle United fans reacted to half season-ticket offer

Desperation. How far we've fallen. Nobody take up this offer.

These are just some of the words and phrases used by disgruntled Newcastle United fans reacting to the Magpies'

The club confirmed on Monday night that existing season-ticket holders will be offered a free additional half-season ticket on a first-come-first-served basis.

Attendances at St James' Park have slumped since the departure of popular manager Rafa Benitez in the summer. A season's low of 42,303 turned out to watch Sunday's last-gasp victory over Southampton.

Despite the recent upturn in form which has seen head coach Steve Bruce guide United to 10th in the table, frustrated fans have continued to stay away in protest at the continued ownership of Mike Ashley.

The news of the half-season ticket offer has been welcomed by the majority of supporters on social media, with many seeing it as a vindication of the decision taken by thousands to abstain from St James' Park.

Here's how Newcastle United fans reacted to the news on social media:

'Keep the pressure on'

'Having an impact'

'Nobody take up this offer'

'Desperation'

'Disgraceful behaviour'

'Cracking gesture'

'Who says protests don't work?'

'How far we've fallen'

'Long may it continue'
