Keep the Heid - Scotland reacts to Nicola Sturgeon's unlikely new coronavirus slogan

Nicola Sturgeon has urged Scots to 'Keep The Heid' after the country's latest coronavirus figures were announced.

For the seventh day in a row, no new coronavirus deaths have been recorded Scotland, while on three days last week, there were no confirmed cases admitted to hospital.

The First Minister revealed the good news in this afternoon's daily Scottish Government briefing, and responded afterwards on Twitter to thank the people of Scotland.

Sturgeon said: "Thank you Scotland - this is down to all of you. Now we must keep it going.

"Please keep doing all the right things - FACTS - and lets all #KeepTheHeid."

FACTS refers to the Scottish Government's new public awareness campaign:

  • Face coverings in enclosed spaces
  • Avoid crowded places
  • Clean hands and surfaces regularly
  • Two metre distancing; and
  • Self-isolate and book a test if you have symptoms.

At the daily briefing, five new positive coronavirus cases across Scotland were confirmed, bringing the total number to 18,373.

611 people are currently in hospital with confirmed or suspected coronavirus - a decrease of five, but an increase of two in confirmed cases.

There are six people in ICU, which is a decrease of six. There are also now only two confirmed cases.

Since March 5, 4132 patients have been able to leave hospital after being diagnosed with Covid-19.

Meanwhile, the National Records for Scotland statistics were also published today. It was confirmed that as of July 12, there have been a total of 4,187 deaths registered in Scotland where coronavirus was mentioned on the death certificate.
