'Keep fighting' Leeds United fans send their support to Dominic Matteo as he recovers from brain tumour

Leeds United fans have sent scores of messages of support to former player Dominic Matteo

The 45-year-old underwent an operation on a brain tumour last Monday and is currently being treated in hospital after coming out of intensive care.

Matteo featured for Liverpool from 1992 to 2000 before he joined Leeds in 2000 and stayed with the Whites until 2004.

The defender also played for Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City during the back end of his career before retiring in 2009.

Matteo also took the field for England under-21s before switching allegiances and featuring for Scotland at senior international level.

After news of Matteo's illness emerged, Leeds fans took to Twitter to send messages of support to the former Whites skipper.

Leeds United also tweeted a message to their former defender, who's goal against AC Milan at the San Siro is still sung about every week at Elland Road.

"The thoughts of everyone at #LUFC are with our former captain @Dominicmatteo21 and his family after he was taken seriously ill earlier this week. Stay strong Dom!," they posted on Saturday morning.

Matteo's former Leeds teammate Ian Harte also posted that his thoughts are with Matteo and his family.

"Thinking of Dom and his family. Everyone is praying that he will be fine," Harte tweeted on Saturday morning.
