Keen runner Kate Middleton reveals irritating reason she can't do London Marathon

In just over a week's time, runners will be pounding the streets in the London Marathon - but the Duchess of Cambridge will not be among them.

Sporty Kate is often seen at engagements trying her hand at all sorts of activities from running to tennis - and even abseiling.

But it seems that taking part in the famous long-distance run in the English capital is one sporting event that she won't be taking part in, even if she wanted to.

Journalist Bryony Gordon, who has met Kate and completed the marathon, revealed she asked her if she would consider doing it.

But Bryony told Runner's World : "I can’t remember exactly what happened, but I was like, ‘Are you going to run the marathon?’

"And she was like, ‘Oh I can’t because security is a bit difficult.’ But I was like, ‘Sure, yeah, yeah, good excuse. If I can do it, anyone can.'"

Despite not being able to take part, Kate did attend the 2017 London Marathon when her mental health cause Heads Together was one of the main charities for that year - although she didn't so any running.

Earlier this week, Kate got to show off her sporting prowess once again during an engagement with young air cadets in the Lake District.

She was pictured mountain biking and abseiling - and tried her best at encouraging one reluctant youngster to take the plunge.

Itelouwa Odipe, 13, from Lancaster, said he spoke to Kate as she waited to try abseiling.

He said: "She was about to abseil and I was next in line so she asked me if I wanted to go before her. I was a bit scared so I said no.

"She said if I did she would meet me down there."

The teenager spoke to her again after deciding not to brave the drop.

"She said it was really good and I should try it," he said.

"I think she was very kind. Even though she is a royal highness she still does things normal humans do."
