Keegan Bradley beats Justin Rose in playoff, wins BMW Championship

NEWTON SQUARE, Pa. _ Keegan Bradley tapped in for par on the first playoff hole Monday to defeat Justin Rose and win the rain-delayed BMW Championship at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pa.

Bradley took advantage when Rose missed a 5-foot par putt on the playoff hole, the 463-yard 18th. Both players missed the green, but Bradley's chip got to within 18 inches of the hole, giving him an easy par.

Bradley, 32, won for the first time on the PGA Tour since the 2012 World Golf Championship-Bridgestone Invitational. He shot a final-round 64 for a 72-hole score of 20-under 260.

Rose, 38, who captured the 2010 AT&T National at Aronimink and the 2013 U.S. Open at Merion, entered the round with a 1-stroke lead. He engaged in a three-way battle with Bradley and Billy Horschel, but birdied the 16th and 17th holes to tie Bradley at 21-under.

After Bradley bogeyed his final regulation hole, Rose walked up the 18th with a 1-stroke lead. Rose drove in the fairway, but his second shot wound up about five yards short of the green. His chip came up 15 feet short, and his par putt lipped out, forcing the playoff.

Although he finished second, Rose moved up to No. 1 in the World Golf Rankings. He will go into the Tour Championship, beginning Sept. 20 at East Lake in Atlanta, in second place on the FedExCup points list.

Horschel, the 2014 FedExCup champion, carded a 64 and tied Xander Schauffele (67) for third at 261.

Tiger Woods was one shot out of the lead after nine holes, but his comeback attempt was sidetracked by bogeys at the 10th and 14th holes. He finished with a 65 for a 72-hole score of 263, tying him for seventh place.

The final round of the tournament was postponed from Sunday to Monday because of heavy rain. Rain fell off and on throughout Monday's round, but the players still were able to finish.
