Keanu Reeves thinks Good Fortune is a "work of art".
The 61-year-old actor stars alongside Seth Rogen, Keke Palmer and Sandra Oh in the new comedy-action movie, which tells the story of an angel who attempts to show a struggling man that money doesn't guarantee happiness, and Keanu has revealed that he relished being part of the project.
The actor told The Hollywood Reporter: "There are sociological, cultural, wage-disparity and status questions being investigated in the film with a really delicate hand — but a hand.
"I think that’s what elevates the film. It hopefully brings around some kind of understanding, compassion and empathy. I think that’s what makes it a work of art."
Despite this, Keanu nearly had to withdraw from the movie after suffering a painful injury.
The Hollywood star shared: "My knee went. I snapped my kneecap vertically, like a potato chip. As the pain was coming up, I was like, ‘Oh f***. This is not good. This is quite bad.’ There was a lot of blood."
Good Fortune is the directorial debut of comedian Aziz Ansari, who initially feared that Keanu would withdraw from the movie.
He admitted: "Keanu could have easily been like, ‘Hey man, I’m so sorry. I’m out.'"
However, Keanu remained committed to the project, and he ultimately relished the experience of working with Aziz and Seth.
He said: "When you have the chance to work with two comedy masters, you go for it."
Seth, 43, also hopes that Good Fortune might prompt a change in attitude towards certain social and economic issues.
The comedy star explained: "We were saying as we were making it, ‘If this movie does nothing else, I hope maybe people tip their DoorDash a little bit more after they watch it.' Because one bad review — someone’s annoyed that they didn’t put the sauce in the thing — can really f*** your s*** up. We found very comedic ways to do it, but it’s very real, and you haven’t really yet seen something from that person’s perspective."
Meanwhile, Aziz previously admitted that he was initially unsure about casting Keanu in his movie.
However, the comedian changed his mind the moment he met the film star for the first time.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Aziz said: "That guy just seems like he's on a different planet, you know what I mean? It doesn't seem like we would be able to interact.
"As soon as I saw him, he had long hair and everything, and I was like, ‘This has got to be him.'"
Aziz also observed that Keanu still has a "real movie star aura".
The comedy star said: "You don't see him around. He's still pretty mysterious. He's one of the few guys who still has this real movie star aura."
