Fortnite made an official character based on Keanu Reeves after the Hollywood star was consistently mistaken for another character, the hit video game's creator has revealed.
Speaking at the E3 gaming conference in Los Angeles, Epic Games creative director Donald Mustard told the crowd how the new John Wick Skin in Fortnite came about following a conversation with Reeves about a character called The Reaper.
"I happened to end up in a spot where Keanu and I were together, talking about some stuff, and we were like, 'What if this kinda made sense?' And [Reeves] was into it, especially because we have this character in Fortnite called The Reaper which kind of - it wasn't intentional - [resembles him]," Mr Mustard said.
"But [Reeves] was starting to have all these kids come up to him, all these teenagers on the street, and they weren't doing the normal, 'Oh you're Neo, oh you're Wick,' - they were doing, 'Fortnite guy! Fortnite guy!' "
According to Mr Mustard, Reeves was originally unaware of what Fortnite was when he first began being approached about the resemblance.
The Fortnite executive continued: "[Reeves] was like 'What is this Fortnite thing?' And then of course he's like, 'That doesn't look like me, that's not me,' and he's like, 'We gotta do it right?'
"It just felt inevitable and made a lot of sense that we would do something together."
Epic Games' official unveiling video of the John Wick Skin saw the character face down and fire shots at The Reaper.
It is not the first time a celebrity has noted a similarity between something in Fortnite and something in real life, with several stars claiming the game copied their dance moves.
Rapper 2 Milly and actor Alfonso Ribeiro launched lawsuits against Epic Games earlier this year over allegedly using dance moves without consent.
Epic Games claimed that it is not possible for an individual dance step or dance routine to be protected by copyright and the cases were dismissed.
