A new trailer for the highly anticipated new Matrix film The Matrix Resurrections has dropped and it appears a LOT has changed since the last three instalments – The Matrix (1999), The Matrix Reloaded (2003), and The Matrix Revolutions (2003).
While Keanu Reeves reprises his iconic role as Neo, it seems at the beginning of the film as though he has abandoned his knowledge about the Matrix by knocking back blue pills and seeing a therapist (Neil Patrick Harris) in order to live a normal life in this current reality.
During a meeting shown in the trailer, he asks Harris: “I’ve had dreams that weren’t just dreams. Am I crazy?”
The trailer also shows him reuniting with Trinity (Carrie Ann Moss), but it seems the pair no longer recognise each other. As the pair shake hands, she asks him: “Have we met?” as he shakes his head.
But, it simply wouldn’t be a Matrix movie without some intense action. And, according to the trailer, this happens when Neo eventually throws away his blue pills and takes the red pill instead to understand once more that his reality is an illusion.
Upon Neo rediscovering this revelation Yahya Abdul-Mateen II tells him: “Time to fly.”
There was no doubt that Neo would forget his impressive kung-fu training, as he is seen playing against what appears to be a younger version of Morpheus (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) but this has not been confirmed.

And they’re particularly loving one scene from the trailer where Neo is lying in a bubble bath while balancing a rubber duck on top of his head.

Though some were disappointed that Laurence Fishburne has not reprised his role as Morpheus. Abdul-Mateen II could play a similar role in the film, but the trailer has kept his identity a mystery and has led to speculation that he could be a younger Morpheus.
I don't know if it's me or not but I think the movie won't hit the same without Laurence Fishburne playing Morpheus !!! 😭💔 pic.twitter.com/Rch0eVu70c

Im sure the recast dude for morpheus is great and all but you cannot expect me to just accept a new actor for arguably the most iconic character from the series lmao.

yahya abdul-mateen II is pretty solid in everything he’s been in imo, wouldnt be surprised if he’s great as young morpheus

The film is directed by Lana Wachowski, who helmed and wrote the previous Matrix movies with her sister Lilly.
Wachowski’s latest instalment also stars some new faces to the franchise including Priyanka Chopra-Jonas, who appears briefly in the trailer, as well as Jonathan Groff, Jessica Henwick and Christina Ricci.
The Matrix Resurrections is due to be released in UK cinemas this Christmas.
