KCR to lay foundation for two LI projects in Sangareddy

Hyderabad: Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will soon lay foundation for Sangameshwara and Basaveshwara lift irrigation projects to irrigate 3.84 lakh acres in Andole , Narayankhed, Zaheerabad and other constituencies.

Finance minister Thaneeru Harish Rao on Friday informed the assembly during the question hour that the estimated cost of Sangameshwara project would be 2,653 crore and Basaveshwara 1,774 crore. The finances would be raised for the project through Manjira Lift Irrigation Corporation from NABARD for which the cabinet recently gave clearance. In a month or two, tenders would be invited for the works.

The state government has prepared plans to to construct Sangameshwara and Basaveshwara lift irrigation schemes (LIS) in Sangareddy district at a cost of 4,427 crore to cater to total ayacut of 3,84,000 acres.

It has been proposed to lift 12 thousand million cubic (TMC) feet of water through Sangameshwara lift irrigation project from Singur reservoir to create an irrigation potential to an extent of 2.19 lakh acres covering 213 villages in 11 mandals in Zaheerabad, Andole and Sangareddy assembly constituencies.

As part of the Sangameshwara project, three pump houses would be set up and six main canals would be constructed, Harish Rao said.

The plan is to lift 8 TMC of water through Basaveshwara project from Singur reservoir to create an irrigation potential to an extent of 1.65 lakh acres covering 166 villages in eight mandals in Narayankhed and Andole assembly constituencies.
