LONDON -- Kazuo Ishiguro, the winner of the 2017 Nobel Prize in Literature, has received a knighthood for his services to literature, the British government announced Friday.
The Japan-born novelist will henceforth be addressed with the prefix "Sir" as a recipient of the honor.
The BBC quoted Ishiguro, 63, as commenting: "Deeply touched to receive this honor from the nation that welcomed me as a small foreign boy."
Ishiguro was born in Nagasaki in 1954 and moved to Britain at age 5 when his father assumed a post at a British research institution. He became a British citizen in 1983.
