The decision by authorities in Kazakhstan to shut down the internet in the wake of intensifying political unrest took some 15 percent of the world's entire Bitcoin mining capacity offline, sending its price tumbling. Kazakhstan is the world's second-largest Bitcoin mining location. Cryptocurrencies have also been hit by recent central bank plans to reduce cash injections and raise interest rates.
