Kayky introduces himself to fans as he gets Man City career started

Kayky thanked his new Manchester City teammates for helping him to settle in his first week at the club.

The Brazilian teenager, 18, was signed by the Blue s from Fluminense for an initial £9m and while he was originally set to arrive in January 2022 the two clubs came to an agreement for him to make the switch earlier. Having arrived at the Etihad this wee k, the youngster enjoyed his first day of training with the senior squad on Friday and spoke with Pep Guardiola about how he is adjusting to his new life.

City's Brazilian contingent - Ederson, Gabriel Jesus and captain Fernandinho all play for the national team - have all done their bit to welcome the new arrival, but Kayky also had fond words for the rest of the group as he reflected on his first few days as a Blue.

“I am delighted with the facilities, they are huge. I also want to thank everyone who has welcomed me. I am being treated very well here by my teammates," he said.

"Some of them I already know, but Fernandinho was the one who I had the first contact with. Also, Gabriel Jesus and Ederson who are Brazilian, but the others are also helping me a lot. Even though I don’t speak the same language, everyone received me very well.”

Kayky comes with glowing reviews from aficionados of South American football but is an unknown in England and isn't currently listed in City's squad for the Premier League and Champions League. The plan is for the young forward to train with the first team just like fellow prospects Cole Palmer and others are, and then to supplement any minutes he can get with the first team with games at Under-23 level.

Introducing himself to City fans, Kayky explained how he hopes his game can offer something different going forward.

“I have always followed the Premier League. For me, it is one of the strongest leagues and one of the biggest. It is a dream to be able to be here," he said.

"Since I was little I have always liked to watch games and I have always followed Manchester City, also because of the Brazilian players who have played here. I have always followed it and I am so happy to be here.

“My style of game is fast and with skills to go forward and also, to think a little differently, to try some different moves.

“I hope to start a new chapter here and that my career can be a winning one. I hope to be able to play amongst the first team and winning a lot of titles.”
