Kayaker rescued in rough seas by lifeboat off Jersey coast

Lifeboat crew members battled strong winds and high waves to rescue a kayaker at the weekend, footage shows.

The crew were called out on Saturday when the kayaker got into trouble after experiencing equipment failure behind Gorey Castle during force seven winds.

The footage shows the RNLI team swiftly taking action after the companion of the kayaker raised the alarm once making it on to shore.

As the turbulent waves hit against the lifeboat, the St Catherine crew continued towards the man who was spotted in the water, despite conditions being at the “operational limits” of the inshore lifeboat.

The crew then threw a lifeline towards the man, who was wearing a fluorescent orange shirt, and pulled him to safety on the boat, before bringing him to shore.

The crew were also able to recover the hull of the kayak.

Despite having been in the water for almost an hour, the kayaker was uninjured.
