Kay Burley to miss Sky News presenting show after breaking Covid-19 rules

Kay Burley will not present her Sky News show on Tuesday after she was caught breaking coronavirus rules as she celebrated her 60th birthday, it is claimed.

The presenter admitted she "inadvertently broke the rules" by popping into a restaurant to use the toilet while she waited for a taxi home over the weekend, after she spent the evening in another restaurant.

Sarah Hewson will replace Kay on Sky News today, Mirror online reports. Mirror Online has contacted Sky News for a comment.

Kay apologised on Twitter on Monday, saying she needed to use the toilet when she was waiting for a taxi home at 11pm, so called into a restaurant, after having had a meal in another venue.

She tweeted: "Evening everyone I want to apologise to you all for an error of judgment.

"On Saturday night I was enjoying my 60th birthday at a Covid compliant restaurant.

"I am embarrassed to say that later in the evening I inadvertently broke the rules."

In a second tweet, she continued: "I had been waiting for a taxi at 11 pm to get home.

"Desperate for the loo I briefly popped into another restaurant to spend a penny. I can only apologise."

Sky will reportedly make an internal investigation.

According to The Guardian, a Sky News spokesperson said: "We place the highest importance on complying with the government guidelines on Covid, and we expect all our people to comply.

"We were disappointed to learn that a small number of Sky News staff may have engaged in activity that breached the guidelines.

"Although this took place at a social event in personal time, we expect all our people to follow the rules that are in place for everyone.

"An internal process is under way to review the conduct of the people involved."
