Kay Burley to miss her Sky News show after breaking coronavirus rules

Kay Burley will not host her Sky News show today after breaking coronavirus rules, it's claimed.

The presenter, 59, has admitted she "inadvertently broke the rules" while celebrating her upcoming 60th birthday over the weekend.

On Tuesday's episode of her show she will be replaced by Sarah Hewson, according to Talk Radio.

Mirror Online has contacted Sky News for comment.

Kay issued an apology on Twitter on Monday evening after admitting that a call of nature saw her head into a restaurant after visiting a "Covid compliant" eatery.

She called it an "error of judgement" and expressed her embarrassment at the situation.

Kay tweeted: "Evening everyone I want to apologise to you all for an error of judgment.

"On Saturday night I was enjoying my 60th birthday at a Covid compliant restaurant.

"I am embarrassed to say that later in the evening I inadvertently broke the rules."

In a second tweet, she continued: "I had been waiting for a taxi at 11 pm to get home.

"Desperate for the loo I briefly popped into another restaurant to spend a penny. I can only apologise."

Kay is understood to have blamed the situation on misunderstandings in planning and organising the event.

She is now facing an internal investigation by Sky.

The inquiry will also include the guests she had with her that also work for the broadcaster.

According to The Guardian, a Sky News spokesperson said: "We place the highest importance on complying with the government guidelines on Covid, and we expect all our people to comply.

"We were disappointed to learn that a small number of Sky News staff may have engaged in activity that breached the guidelines.

"Although this took place at a social event in personal time, we expect all our people to follow the rules that are in place for everyone.

"An internal process is under way to review the conduct of the people involved."
