Royal baby Charlotte Elizabeth Diana may have stolen the newspaper headlines, but for Monkey there was only one star of the weekend – Kay Burley.
While the Sky News reporter undertook a static all-weather vigil outside the Lindo wing of St Mary’s Hospital for Prince George’s birth, this time she was freed to roam the streets broadcasting live on the Periscope app.
On Thursday, Burley took advantage of the sunnny weather to conduct a “royal tour” taking in Buckingham Palace and the changing of the guard, Kensington Palace, St James’s Palace and the Diana Memorial Park.
As the “great Kate wait” continued on Friday, Burley visited the Park Lane Hotel to sample special baby-themed cakes and treats. She sampled patisserie including a baby’s pacifier, milk bottle, and napkin folded like a nappy, breaking out the champagne with her field producer Sarah Hajibagheri.

By the time the baby arrived, Burley was fully prepared, streaming the Duke and Duchess heading home with the baby. By Saturday night, the fizz was out again:

What next? Burley – who streamed a behind-the-scenes look at what her team were up to on Tuseday – promises “lots of clever new media coverage”. Monkey can’t wait.
