Kay Burley's grovelling email to Sky colleagues leaked as she brands herself 'idiot'

Kay Burley issued an apology email to her colleagues at Sky News where she branded herself an "idiot" ahead of her suspension, which has now been leaked online.

Kay's six-month suspension comes as she breached lockdown rules by hosting a 60th birthday party and using the toilet at a different restaurant afterwards.

The presenter has publicly apologised twice and claims she broke the rules inadvertantly.

Mail Online has now published a leaked email from Kay, that she reportedly sent to her Sky News colleagues, admitting she let them down and had no excuse.

She wrote: "Dear all, I'm an idiot.

"I'm really very sorry. I know I have let so many of you down.

"There's really nothing else I can say to excuse my actions."

The Mirror has contacted a representative for Kay for comment.

Kay took to Twitter shortly after her suspension was announced, and wrote a lengthy apology, insisting her actions were accidental.

Inzamam Rashid will be off air for three months, the channel has said (Sky News)

She wrote: "I have agreed with Sky News to step back from my broadcasting role for a period of reflection.

"It's clear to me that we are all in the fight against Covid 19 and that we all have a duty to stick firmly by the rules.

"It doesn't matter that I thought I was Covid-compliant on a recent social event. The fact is I was wrong, I made a big mistake, and I am sorry."

"Some dear friends and colleagues - some of the most talented and committed professionals in our business - have been pulled into this episode and I regret this enormously.

"I was one of the founding presenters on Sky News. No one is prouder of our channel's reputation, the professionals on our team, and the impact we make.

"I very much look forward to being able to continue my 32 year career with Sky when I return."

Political editor Beth Rigby and correspondent Inzamam Rashid, who were both present at the party, have also agreed to come off air for three months.
