The recent killings of gangster Mahesh ‘Attack’ and jailed gangster Binder Gujjar’s brother, Manish Gujjar, had two striking similarities – the modus operandi and the alleged involvement of gangster Kaushal, a parole jumper.
From petty disputes over land with the slain gangster Chhelu in early 2000s, to being accused in the two recent gang wars in Gurgaon, Kaushal (35) has come a long way in the crime world.
“Since two most wanted gangsters—Sandeep Gadoli (dead) and Binder Gujjar (in jail) --are out of the picture, Kaushal seems to be trying to take control of the close-knit world of criminals,” a police official said on condition of anonymity.
The son of a property dealer in Naharpur Rupa village near Rajiv Chowk, Kaushal used to provide and fix submersible pumps before joining the criminal ranks. His tryst with crime started in 2004 with a land dispute with the then gangster Sudesh alias Chhelu. The fight between Kaushal and Chhelu resulted in nine murders among the two gangs. The series of killings stopped on December 12, 2006, when Kaushal’s men shot dead Chhelu at Rajiv Chowk in police custody.
Before the recent two gang war deaths, Kaushal was booked in eight cases, including five murders. A few months after Chhelu’s killing, he was arrested, awarded life imprisonment in two cases. In December last year, he jumped parole when he was let out of Bhondsi jail in Gurgaon.
According to police records, Kaushal got Mahesh ‘Attack’ killed on September 21 and is also one of the accused in Manish Gujjar’s murder on Monday night. Both the victims were gunned down by a group of shooters while they were travelling in SUVs.
“Earlier Kaushal was involved in crimes out of personal rivalry,” said assistant commissioner of police, crime Sanjeev Balhara, who is investigating Manish’s murder.
Police sources said that Kaushal is assisted by at least ten youngsters. His strongest henchman is Palwal district resident Amit Dagar, who ran the gang when Kaushal was in jail. On July 6, 2013 Dagar was arrested only to be released on bail.
“Kaushal’s involvement has started after he jumped parole and Sandeep Gadoli was killed in an encounter in Mumbai. He wants to become a don,” said a police official.
Police sources also revealed that Kaushal, might have joined hands with slain gangster Sandeep Gadoli’s men to take on Binder Gujjar. Gadoli was considered Binder’s strongest rival. Among the six people booked for killing Manish Gujjar included Gadoli’s two brothers Bhram Prakash, Kuldeep Gadoli, sister Sudesh and Kaushal, his brother Manish and aide Amit Daggar.
“May be Gadoli’s men and Kaushal have the same target, Binder Gujjar,” the official said.
Kaushal stays with his sister-in-law, whose husband also fell victim to the gang wars. His father, Nand Kishore, runs the business of renting out properties constructing in their native village-Naharpur Rupa. Kaushal’s brother Manish, with criminal record, is also on the run like him.
